I have often heard my friends discuss about doing charity. It is indeed a noble thought - to give back to the underprivileged in whatever capacity you can. It reflects an attitude of gratitude by paying forward for the graces and blessings you have received in this life. 

However, even if we are successful in removing someone’s material miseries, this is only a very partial and temporary solution; just as you give food to a hungry person, and after six hours he is hungry again.  

There is a need for doing material charity toward society.  But that is not the only kind of charity that exists.  The highest charity is to help someone attain love for God, and get out of the cycle of life-and-death. The God-realized Saints engage in this divine charity.  They remove the root cause of suffering of the souls, which is forgetfulness of God.  If we help the God-realized Saints in their welfare work, we effectively engage in the highest charitable activity we possibly can.

The Bhagavad Gita states:

yat karoṣhi yad aśhnāsi yaj juhoṣhi dadāsi yat

yat tapasyasi kaunteya tat kuruṣhva mad-arpaṇam  (9.27)

Lord Krishna said to Arjun: ‘Whatever you do, whatever you eat, whatever sacrifices you perform, whatever you give away in charity, and whatever austerities you undertake, do them all as an offering unto Me.’

I humbly seek your support in establishing of the Jagadguru Kripalu University (JKU) and the Jagadguru Kripalu Chikitsalaya (JKC) in the rural areas of Odisha, India.

The world-famous scientist, Einstein, stated, “Education is not just the learning of facts but the training of the mind to think”. There are many premier institutions in India that equip students with high-class academic qualifications and help them secure dream jobs. However, being on a hedonistic treadmill of material allurements alone has caused the degradation of human values in India and around the globe. The consequences are visible in widespread anxiety, increase in suicide rates, alcoholism, and drug abuse. Evidently, today’s youth is falling short of inner strength and character. 

To bridge this void, JKU will impart world-class, multi-disciplinary education including emphasis on Spiritual Sciences, Yogic Sciences, and Naturopathy. It is an upcoming university, on a sprawling 100-acre campus in the rural area of Banara, Odisha. The students of JKU will acquire erudition in their respective fields of study while imbibing universal humanitarian values & elevating the lives of others around them. Through the amalgamation of ancient traditions and modern scientific spirit, JKU will be the first of its kind to achieve a unique blend of intellectual growth and spiritual development. Such comprehensive education will blossom today’s young learners into tomorrow’s global leaders and nation-builders, with virtuous qualities of both the head and the heart. The JKU campus will also house a 400-bed multipurpose hospital to serve the healthcare needs of 200 surrounding villages.
