In a heartwarming initiative to promote health and wellness, Jivan Jagruti Welfare Trust, in collaboration with ASG Eye Hospital and Jagadguru Kripalu Yog Trust (JKYog India), organised a Free Geriatric Health Awareness Program at the JKYog Bhakti Ashram, Banara, Odisha. The event, held on September 1st, 2024, offered a unique blend of valuable health services, educational sessions, and engaging activities, all aimed at improving the quality of life for senior citizens.

Nurturing Vision and Vitality

The program offered a wide range of essential health services for all. Eye care specialists from ASG Eye Hospital provided free checkups for various eye conditions, including Cataracts, Corneal issues, Lasik, Retina problems, Glaucoma, and Eye Trauma. These services were crucial in helping attendees maintain their vision and overall eye health, which often deteriorates with age.

In addition to eye care, participants had access to Bone Mineral Density (BMD) tests, a critical tool in assessing bone health and preventing osteoporosis. Muscle strength assessments were also available, offering insights into muscle functionality, vital for preserving mobility and independence in later years.

Educating and Empowering the Elderly

Beyond the health screenings, the program was rich in educational content. Attendees had the opportunity to learn about common geriatric health issues through informative sessions, where experts shared insights on managing and preventing age-related conditions. The geriatric physiotherapy exercises session was particularly popular, providing practical advice on maintaining strength and flexibility as one age.

These sessions educated and empowered participants, equipping them with the knowledge needed to take control of their health. The atmosphere was learning and camaraderie as participants engaged in discussions and shared their health journeys.

A Collaborative Effort for a Healthier Future

The success of the Geriatric Health Awareness Program was a testament to the power of community collaboration. Healthcare professionals, volunteers, and participants came together with a shared goal: to promote the well-being of older people. The day concluded with comprehensive health screenings, including checks for BMD, Blood Pressure, Pulse, and Weight, ensuring that all aspects of health were addressed. Each participant left with valuable health insights and a renewed sense of well-being, knowing that their health matters and that they are not alone on their journey.

Looking Ahead: Continued Commitment to Elderly Wellness

As we look forward, our commitment to improving the health of our elderly community remains strong. This event's success has inspired us to continue organising similar programs, spreading the joy of learning and wellness to even more people.
