These verses outline the divine qualities of true devotees, explaining the nature of their character and the spiritual depth of their devotion. These qualities, as described, make them especially dear to God:

1. Free from Malice
Devotees harbour no ill will toward any living being. They recognize that all creatures are parts of God, and to be envious or hateful toward anyone is seen as being envious of God Himself. Thus, they maintain a heart free from hostility—even toward those who oppose them.

2. Friendly and Compassionate
True devotion dissolves the feeling of separateness. Devotees see all beings as children of the same divine source. This spiritual vision fosters friendliness and a deep compassion for the suffering of others, replacing alienation with unity.

3. Detached from Possessions and Ego
Devotees practice humility and reject pride, knowing that ego and possessiveness hinder spiritual growth. They shed the false identity of being merely the body and do not consider themselves the owners of their possessions or accomplishments.

4. Balanced in Joy and Sorrow
They remain emotionally balanced regardless of life’s ups and downs. Trusting that outcomes are governed by the divine will, they focus on performing their duties sincerely and accept results with inner calm and faith.

5. Forgiving Nature
Forgiveness is a key virtue. Devotees do not seek vengeance or emotional satisfaction by punishing wrongdoers. They relinquish negative thoughts and leave justice in the hands of God, protecting their own hearts from spiritual contamination.

6. Contentment
True devotees are inwardly satisfied and do not seek happiness through material gain. By reducing desires instead of increasing possessions, they achieve a state of peaceful contentment.

7. Steady Devotional Union
Their connection to God (yog) is continuous and unbroken. Devotion is not occasional; it is a constant state of consciousness and inner union with the Divine.

8. Self-Controlled
With minds lovingly absorbed in God, devotees withdraw from worldly distractions. This divine focus grants them control over their senses and emotions, leading to inner discipline.

9. Firm Conviction
Spiritual determination arises from a stable, resolute intellect guided by scripture and the wisdom of the Guru. Devotees are unwavering in their beliefs and remain steadfast even amid opposition or challenges.

10. Total Dedication to God
Their entire being—mind, intellect, body, and possessions—is surrendered to God. They serve with full awareness of their soul’s intrinsic identity as a servant of the Divine. This wholehearted dedication makes them precious in the eyes of God.
